United Nations Environment Programme - Division of Technology, Industry and Economics (UNEP-DTIE)
UNEP DTIE encourages decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and implement policies, strategies and practices that are cleaner and safer, make efficient use of natural resources and ensure environmentally sound management. The UNEP DTIE strategy is to influence informed decision making through partnerships with other international organizations, governmental authorities, business and industry, and nongovernmental organizations; support implementation of conventions; and build capacity in developing countries.
The Cleaner Production is a strategy set up by the UNEP-DTIE's Production and Consumption branch. It is intended to protect the environment, the consumer and the worker while improving industrial efficiency, profitability, and competitiveness. In that framework the DTIE refrers to the case studies and the tools developped by the INEM as an illustration of how to implement cleaner production.
