Environment Management and Audit Institute (EMAI)


Environmental Management and Audit Institute is a non-profit, non-governmental organization. It has been founded by Lithuanian Industrialists Confederation and Engineering Ecology Association (IEA-INEM-Lithuania). EMAI is a member of INEM.

The aim of EMAI is to provide help for Lithuanian industrial enterprises to implement environmental requirements according to EMAS Regulation and EN ISO 14000 standards system and other EU documents considering environmental protection.

Institute of Environmental Engineering (APINI)


The Institute of Environmental Engineering was established as an independent interdisciplinary research institute affiliated with Kaunas University of Technology. In 1994, the Pollution Prevention Centre was founded at APINI as non-advocacy, non-profit organisation, promoting principles of sustainable development and pollution prevention in Lithuanian industry and other spheres of economy. APINI is affiliated member of INEM.

APINI activities fall into the following main areas: (i) trainings and consultations in implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and other environmental management tools (eco-labelling, LCA, eco-design, etc.); (ii) assessment of Cleaner Production (CP) possibilities and implementation of CP projects, including preparation of loan documentation, assistance in project monitoring and supervision; (iii) water quality modelling and management in various hierarchical levels of the river basin; (iv) trainings and consultations in chemicals control; (v) assistance in Environmental impact assessment (EIA), including preparation of EIA programme, environmental impact statement; (vi) consultations in waste management and development of national waste legislation, mainly regarding end-of- life products. APINI also performs research in the above-mentioned areas and takes part in educational program at the MSc and PhD level.
