Center for the Development of Enterprises (CDE)
The CDE is an institution of the ACP group of states (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) and the European Union, in the framework of the Cotonou Agreement. CDE's mission is to contribute to poverty reduction by fostering wealth creation by lending support to the various types of operator that make up the private sector in the ACP countries ; in this role it draws extensively on the capabilities of enterprises in EU countries.
The Sustainable Management Action Research and Training (SMART program) is a CDE initiative to improve the competitiveness of the ACP enterprises in the export markets through the environmental certification for SME and to assist local environmental consultants and enterprises in the field of Environmental Management Systems.
The SMART program is developed under a framework agreement between CDE and the INEM and aims to reinforce local capacities with new methods and proven adapted concepts for environmental management systems and standards. Environmental certification can be achieved at reduced cost and time by the clustering of enterprises and the process of coaching with local environmental consultants.
